Read Isaiah 43:4.

Prayer and worship are critically important for developing our relationship with God. We are encouraged many times in scripture to lift up our prayers to God at all times. Jesus encouraged us to do so, and gave his disciples (and us) some “templates” to follow for prayer, such as the Lord’s Prayer that we use in worship each Sunday. Early Christians were noted for their prayer lives and for their piety, and that tradition was central to the beginning of the Methodist movement. John Wesley stressed the practice of prayer in his own life, and believed that the early Methodists needed to be a praying people. And yet, sometimes prayer can be hard. We are not sure what to pray for or how to listen for God. And the needs of the world around us can seem overwhelming.

For times such as that the prophet Isaiah reminds us that God has already declared us precious and loves us. In our prayers, as well as in our faith walk, we don’t have to do the heavy lifting - we simply need to lean on God and listen.

Personal Worship Option:

Lord, thank you for loving me. Help me to lean on you today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
