Read 1 Corinthians 11:23-26.
This is the first time we read about the Lord’s Supper in scripture. I realize the Lord’s Supper is in all four Gospels but all of Paul’s epistles were written before the Gospels except for 1 & 2 Timothy. Paul teaches us that the bread symbolizes the body of Jesus, and the cup symbolizes the blood of Jesus. He explains how the Lord’s Supper is a meal of remembrance, covenant and grace. When we take Holy Communion, we are proclaiming the crucifixion of Jesus until He returns.
When we have communion God’s grace is given to us in a beautiful and powerful way. It is not the literal body and blood of Jesus as some teach or a simple act of remembrance. It is an act of worship where God’s presence floods our hearts and lives.
Everyone is welcome to have communion with us because God’s grace is available to everyone.
Personal Worship Option:
Holy God, thank you for this act of worship that reminds us of what you have done for us. Thank you for pouring out your forgiveness. In the Holy name of Jesus, we pray. Amen
