Read 1 Corinthians 1:18-2:2.
The word foolish is mentioned six times in this text. From the world’s standpoint the things of God look foolish. We are foolish to some because we pray, try to live for God, go to church and give to the church. It does not make sense to the unbeliever. Who is foolish depends on who is talking and who is listening. If I went back in time and told my grandfather that I posted a video on my Facebook page, talked to him about the church’s website and explained to him that I watched a video on my iPhone he would have worried about my mental health. Those terms were not part of our culture yet. The unbeliever is similar in that they do not understand why we love Jesus and have a passion to spread the good news of Jesus and His love. When Paul says, “the foolishness of God is wiser than mankind,” he does not mean God is foolish. He simply means the things of God sound foolish to those who do not believe.
Precious Lord, I realize that my faith may look and sound foolish to those who do not believe or understand. Help me love them and share with them your love and why I am devoted to you. Amen.
