Read Psalm 63:1.

David confesses his faith in the only living God. He has no doubts about his relationship with God and has a deep longing for God in his heart. He compares his desire for God to being thirsty in a dry land where there is no water. If we worked outside in the heat all day without anything to drink, we would be dehydrated and very thirsty. We would need a drink. In the heat of summer, it is very important to stay hydrated. David’s metaphor works well when we think about our desire for God. We need spiritual nourishment just like we need physical nourishment. Are we drinking deeply from the Living Water (John 4:14) Jesus offers us? Do we thirst for God?

Personal Worship Option:

Oh God, you are my God. I thirst for your presence and power in my life. I want to please you in all I say and do. Poor out your Living Water into my heart and life and quench my thirsty soul with your holy presence.  Amen.
