Read 1 Kings 20:1-5.
Ahab was a king of Israel. He was a terrible person and married to one of the worst women in the Bible, Jezebel. Not only was he a bad person but a lousy king. Israel was having troubles with Benhadad the king of Syria/Aram to the point that Ahab was cornered by the Syrian army. What Benhadad the king of Syria required of Ahab was an absolute surrender. Ahab responds, “I am yours, as well as all that I have.” God intervened and Benhadad was defeated but the phrase, “I am yours, as well as all that I have,” catches my attention because that is what God expects from us. God wants us to surrender to His will. It is not easy. It should be the goal of every Christian to grow in our faith as we surrender our will to God’s will.
Mighty God, I place my spirit, my soul, and my all into your hands. I trust your will in my life. As the old hymn goes, “all to Jesus I surrender, I surrender all.” Amen
