Read Luke 9:23.
To follow Jesus is to walk a path of surrender. It’s not just about believing in who He is—it’s about yielding who we are. In Luke 9:23, Jesus makes it clear: following Him requires a daily decision to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow in His footsteps.
“Deny yourself” doesn’t mean losing your personality or becoming less of who you are—it means letting go of the part of us that insists on our own way over God’s way. It’s the call to surrender our will, our plans, our desires, and let God reshape them into something better, something eternal.
The cross Jesus speaks of isn’t just a symbol of suffering; it’s a symbol of purpose. In Jesus’ day, the cross meant death—but for believers, it also represents the death of the old self and the birth of a life fully devoted to God’s will.
And this is not a one-time act—it’s daily. Every morning, we wake up and choose: Will I live for myself today, or will I follow Jesus? Will I cling to my preferences, or trust God’s perfect plan?
When we surrender our will to God, we don’t lose—we gain. We find freedom from selfishness, purpose in our pain, and joy in serving a Savior who first gave everything for us.
Lord, help me to deny myself today. Teach me to surrender my will to Yours and give me the strength to carry my cross faithfully. I want to follow You, not just in word, but in action—every single day. Amen.
