Devotion:
Read John 3:16; 1 John 3:16.
I had not noticed the connection of these two verses before! I’ve been in the church all of my life and been a pastor for 37 years, but do not recall ever seeing these verses connected. Some scholars debate whether it was the same person who wrote both “The Gospel According To John” and the three letters toward the end of the New Testament (it could have been an associate of the apostle). Either way, I wonder if they were intentional about this connection. It doesn’t really matter, but it is interesting to note it.
The message in both verses echo the love that God showed us through Jesus Christ. It is the core message of the gospel, the good news we have received and seek to share. We share it by telling those around us about it. We share it by living it toward others. God loves you! Jesus gave his life to show you that love! Receive it and believe it! And tell as many people as you can about it!
Personal Worship Option:
Offer a prayer of thanksgiving and celebration for the love God has given you. Also pray about who you know who most needs to hear about and experience that love.
