Devotion:
Read John 1:14-17.
In the Old Testament days (and since then), many of God’s people misunderstood the purpose of the law, thinking we had to fully follow it in order to be right with God. But Jesus made it clear that we are saved by the free gift of grace. Grace is precious because Jesus himself is the treasure. To discover grace is to discover God’s utter devotion to you.
Many years ago, a friend accepted Christ as her savior but could not understand grace. She kept trying to be “good enough” for God and continued to fail. Grace was the issue - she couldn’t understand how God could love her without earning it. After many conversations, she finally understood and it transformed her life.
This is the gift that God gives. A grace that grants us first the power to receive love and then the power to give it. A grace that changes us, shapes us, and leads us to a life that is externally altered. All God wants from us is faith and to do that, is to grow in grace.
Personal Worship Option:
Prayer for the day: “God, you are abounding in forgiveness and mercy and goodness I cannot understand. I worship you with my heart and soul. Please let me feel your mercy and grace so I can give it to others I encounter today. I give you thanks for the grace I do not deserve and your mercies, which are new every morning. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
