Read Acts 6:1-7.
We looked at this passage last week, but let’s take another look with our focus for this week in mind. Tomorrow in our worship services, we will be emphasizing that every person in the church is needed for the body of Christ to fully function. Every person who has made a commitment to Jesus Christ and to Christ Church has a part to play in our shared ministry.
In those days, weeks and months after Jesus had gone back to heaven, the apostles were continuing to learn how to lead and guide this growing movement of followers of Jesus, as the Holy Spirit continued to lead them. In these verses, we read of a complaint that arose about a need in the group. The apostles agreed that the issue should be addressed but knew that it would take away from their focus if they tried to deal with it. Addressing the need would need to be shared among others in the group. The people chose seven men to oversee the food distribution ministry. That role was just as important as anything the disciples were doing.
Be assured that you are needed in some area of ministry within the life of the church. Give some thought and prayer about how God has gifted you and the passions you have for serving in some way. Then check out the many options to serve and offer yourself as a part of our shared ministry in the name of Jesus Christ.
Personal Worship Option:
Offer this prayer or one in your own words: You are the Lord of my life. I seek to serve your mission in this world. Show me how you would have me serve in the life of your Church. Guide us all to do our part so that we can help others come to know you. Amen.
