Read Exodus 18:13-24.
Moses learns a valuable lesson about sharing the workload and using the skills of the people around him. Moses was settling disputes and also teaching the people God’s laws, and it was all too much. It was too much for the people and for Moses. He could not get to other important work. Jethro suggested that Moses delegate most of this work to others and focus his efforts on jobs only he could do. Delegation relieved Moses’ stress and improved the quality of the life of the people. It also allowed others with similar gifts to share the load while honoring God with their lives. Proper delegation can multiply effectiveness while giving others a chance to grow.
Moses was doing what he saw needed to be done but when confronted with another solution to the issue, he was open to the possibility. All those people who joined with Moses had always been available, the need was now available, and they answered “yes” to the opportunity.
Personal Worship Option:
Are you taking on more responsibility that could be shared? Are you available and ready with a “yes”. How can you share the load in worship and honoring God?
