Read Matthew 6:24-34.
This text is part of the Sermon On The Mount which is the longest discourse we have from Jesus. In the middle of the sermon Jesus exhorts them to not worry about their life in terms of what they would eat, drink, or how they would be clothed. Jesus assures them that God knows they need these things. We need to seek God and a right relationship with God first. When we do that, our needs will be provided. God has an amazing way of meeting our needs. I have seen it repeatedly in my life. When it looks like we cannot pay the bills, God somehow makes a way. Years ago, when we were a young family raising children, there were many times I prayed this scripture and stood on this promise. With $50 in the checking account and two weeks before my next check how will we buy groceries? How can we afford diapers? How can I put gas in the car to visit a sick church member in the hospital? Buying gas for the lawn mower was often a challenge. This kind of tight budget lasted for many years, but God always met the need and somehow helped us make it. Let us put God first and trust Him to meet our needs whether they are financial or a different kind of need.
Jehovah Jireh thank you for being my provider. I put you first in my life. You are my focus and priority, and I trust you to meet all my needs and the needs of my family. With a grateful heart I pray and give you praise. Amen
