Read Psalm 34:15.

God watches over and listens to the righteous.

In the beginning of Psalm 34, there is an interesting line of commentary about the psalm’s setting, “Of David, when he feigned madness before Abimelech, so that he drove him out, and he went away.”  Suffice it to say that David is writing these words during a time of personal crisis, when he was worried about his own safety (there were several Abimelechs in the Hebrew scriptures, and none of them were nice to be around).

David writes the words of this psalm while in the midst of his fear and troubles, but his tone is not that of a man crying for help. Instead, it seems more like a testimony of God’s presence and promise even during the immediate crisis. “The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry.” (34:15).  David may be on the run from Abimelech, and not sure even what tomorrow may bring, but he is sure of one thing: God is with him and will not forsake him.  And it is a word of hope for all of us, in the midst of the interesting times we live in.

Personal Worship Option:

A prayer: “O Lord, help me at all times to seek your face and to lean on your presence.  Amen.”
