Read Numbers 24:16.
Balaam was not a Hebrew. He was a false and wicked prophet. Though he was a false prophet God decided to use him. In Balaam’s prophecy from Peor, he angers Balak who was the King of Moab because he could not help but prophesy good things about Israel and destruction on Moab. He acknowledges God as Jehovah Elyon, The Most High God. I love seeing wicked men like Nebuchadnezzar and Balaam confessing Jehovah is the Most High God. More people should be in awe of God.
Some use God’s name inappropriately. One of the commandments states, “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain (Deuteronomy 6:11). We need to be careful what we say and respect the Most High God. I think we take the Lord’s name in vain when we use the word God, or Jesus as slurs or in angry moments. Our words mean something. When we speak the name of Jesus, let us do it humbly, worshipfully, and with great respect.
Jehovah Elyon (eh-lee-ohn) Most High God, forgive me for taking your name in vain and not being in awe of your majesty and glory. Help me speak your name with great humility and show the proper respect you deserve. Amen.
