Read James 1:22-25.

There is an old expression that says, “When all is said and done, there is usually more said than done.” It is easy to talk about doing some good thing, but it is often much more difficult to actually go and do it. All of us have a limited amount of time…24 hours in a day, seven days in a week, and so on. What we actually go and do, then, is usually a matter of setting our priorities. The things we intentionally make an effort to do are the ones that have the highest priority, whether we want to admit that or not. Other people compete for our time and attention, and we sometimes let them set our priorities for us. So, there are good reasons for not doing all the good things we would like to do, but the accountability for choosing is ours alone.
James is telling us that we should act out or implement what we learn in Scripture. In every Bible study, we should ask ourselves, “So what? What is this calling me to do?” James is telling us to be doers of the Word and not just hearers. This is not in order to be saved but because we are saved!
Personal Worship Option:

Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) once said the parts of the Bible he did not understand did not bother him at all, but rather it was the parts he did understand. What bothers you about this passage? Pray for determination and discipline to be a doer of the Word.
