Read Luke 10:27-37.
The man in the ditch was so blessed by what happened to him in this story. He had literally been left to die and now he was being brought back to life. He was totally dependent on somebody helping him and somebody did. The “good Samaritan” pulled him out of the ditch, tended to his wounds and provided for him to be cared for until he could completely recover. Can you imagine the change that made in him for the rest of his life? He knew that every hour of every day was “additional time” that he had been given in this world. And I’m guessing he was much more aware of those in need around him and was willing to help them.
But there was another person who was also blessed by this experience - the one who did the helping. He allowed the Spirit of God to work through him to bring healing to another person; to provide new life for someone. That experience brings with it a sense of joy and satisfaction that runs deep into your soul.
Remember, when you help someone in need, you not only bless them, you also receive a blessing. Yes, it is “more blessed to give than to receive,” but you also receive a blessing when you give one.
Personal Worship Option:
Offer this prayer or one in your own words: Generous God, thank you for the opportunities I have every day to give in some way to others. And thank you for the blessing I receive in doing so. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
