Devotion:

Read Psalm 30:4-12.

This Psalm has David telling about being able to rejoice in God even in times that are rough and when it seems that God is not hearing our prayers. However, God has always heard the psalmist’s prayers, and the writer rejoices at the way God has answered so totally and completely. Indeed, tears of grief turn to tears of joy, and the sound of wailing is replaced with singing and dancing. When David thanks God publicly, he wants others to share in his joy and praise. He proclaims that God is the one who saved him and how he gave him joy even when grief was present.

Experiencing God’s joy is so different than our happiness about things. The joy of God is deep and lasting, and we need to thank Him for it. God’s joy gives us such hope for the morning, the next day, and through our lives. God’s joy changes the way we live, the way we worship, and the way we pray. We should share God’s joy with others and demonstrate that even when things go wrong God is with us to pick us up.

Personal Worship Option:

Dear God, you take away our grief and replace it with joy. Keep reminding us that you always hear us and care for us. We give you thanks always. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
