Devotion:
Read Isaiah 52:7.
Many Bible scholars agree that the book of Isaiah should be divided into three sections, chapters 1-39, 40-55 and 56-66. Some even refer to these sections as First Isaiah, Second Isaiah and Third Isaiah. In the first section, the prophet is warning the people about what ended up happening - they were defeated and exiled to Babylon. The role of the prophet changes in the second section, as the need was then to comfort and encourage the people. Our verse for today comes from that section. As you read the first six verses of this chapter, you can sense the buildup to this verse. God will redeem the people. They will return from exile.
Think of a time in your life when you were going through some major difficulties. Then you received good news about that struggle. Change was coming. You were going to have peace in your mind and spirit again. You can resonate with this writer: “How beautiful…” is the source of that good news, that promise of peace.
God is the source of our peace. Receive that good news this day and share with everyone you can every day.
Personal Worship Option:
Let these words from Sy Miller and Jill Jackson be your prayer this day: “Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.”
