Devotion:

Read Micah 6:6-8.

We’re focusing our devotions this week on having a humble relationship with others. Our passage today sums up in a few words what it means to represent God in this world. And it includes humility.

Micah wants to know the best way to show respect to God. He wonders if he should give an armload of offerings. Or if God will be impressed with thousands of rams and barrels of olive oil. Or if God will be moved by the sacrifice of his firstborn child. He genuinely wants to know what God requires.

Then he comes to the right conclusion. He says God has made it plain how to live, what to do, and what God is looking for in men and women. It’s summed up in three parts: to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

We learn in this passage that we can go to God with our gifts and sacrifices, but what is more important is our humble heart that loves mercy and doing what is right. So, what is our response in a world that seems so full of wickedness? How do we respond to sin and injustice in the world? As Christians our response needs to look different. We need to do what is right and fair. We want to show goodness and kindness. And we want to do all these good and righteous deeds with humility in the Lord.

Personal Worship Option:

What are you facing today that requires you to act differently from what the world might expect? How can you do the three simple things God expects: do what is right, merciful, and be filled with humility?
