Read Luke 15:3-7.

Luke 15 is one of my favorite chapters in the New Testament. It’s action-packed, with three stories of lost items (sheep, coins, people) frantically searched for and triumphantly found. The last verse of the chapter (15:32) has the father exclaiming about his younger son “.... he was lost and now he is found!” It’s all pretty exciting, but a contrarian could make the observation that God doesn’t seem to be looking at things from a cost-effective point of view. Why spend all that time and effort on trying to find one sheep that has gotten away, especially when you have 99 still at home?  It’s a valid question, but it also serves to point out the radical and amazing love of our God as demonstrated in Jesus Christ. From God’s point of view, the kingdom of heaven isn’t whole until all have been found and come home. That includes sheep and it certainly includes people. I can attest from my personal experience that we can run and we can hide, but God isn’t going to quit pursuing us until we are found.

Personal Worship Option:

Lord, sometimes we get lost and run in the wrong directions. Thank you for loving us and bringing us home. Amen.
