Read Luke 8:40-48.

Jesus was a Rabbi (Teacher). The Rabbis and Priests wore a Prayer Shawl/Tallit. At the end of the Tallit (talleet) are Tassels. The two long tassels are called tzitzit (tzeetzeet). The two tzitzit have 5 knots representing the 10 commandments. The Rabbi’s Tallit was sacred. The most sacred part of the Tallit was the tzitzit.  The priest and Rabbi’s Tallit had a blue cord woven into it. It represented heaven and their bloodline. It represented their covenant with God. There was a common notion that if you touched the tzitzit of a Rabbi/Priest you could be healed.

When the woman with the issue of blood reached out and touched the hem of his garment it was probably the Tzitzit on his robe she touched. She was healed immediately but it was her faith in Jesus and not the Tzitzit that healed her.  She had a deep desire to get to Jesus and did not let the obstacles that faced her stand in her way. What obstacles are in our way? Do we have the same determination to get to Jesus?

Personal Worship Option:

Dear God, my heart longs for you. I want to be close to you. I want to know you. Pour out your Spirit in my life and draw me closer to your holy presence so I can know you better. Amen.
