Read Matthew 14:25-32.
In Matthew 24, Jesus is speaking to His disciples about the signs of His return and the end of the age. His words are both a warning and a comfort. He says, “See, I have told you ahead of time,” reminding us that nothing will take God by surprise—and it shouldn’t take His people by surprise either.
Just as a farmer watches the trees for signs of the changing season, Jesus calls us to be watchful for the spiritual signs that His return is near. The fig tree becoming tender and putting out leaves is a picture of readiness. The tree doesn’t need to be told summer is coming—it simply responds to the warmth and light it feels. In the same way, we are called to stay spiritually sensitive, awake to God’s presence and aware of the times we live in.
The world around us may be filled with uncertainty, unrest, and confusion—but for the believer, these are reminders that God’s promises are unfolding just as He said they would. Jesus’ return is not a threat to fear, but a hope to cherish.
The call of this passage is clear: Be ready. Keep your heart aligned with God’s Word. Stay faithful in your walk with Christ. Don’t let the noise of the world dull your spiritual vision. The Lord has told us ahead of time so that we might live with watchful anticipation and steadfast hope.
Reflection:
- Am I living in a way that reflects my hope in Christ’s return?
- Do I notice the “spiritual seasons” changing around me, or have I grown complacent?
Personal Worship Option:
Lord Jesus, thank You for warning and preparing us through Your Word. Help me to live with open eyes and a ready heart. May I not be fearful of the times but faithful in them, trusting that You are near and Your promises are sure. Amen.
