Read John 1:35-42.

Two of John’s disciples are intrigued by their teacher’s description of Jesus and decide to follow him. When Jesus invites them to “come and see” I think he is offering more than just finding out the location of where he is staying, but an invitation to spend time with him and experience what he is all about. Listen to him teach. Notice how he relates to people and what he does for them. Then they could decide whether they will continue to follow him; whether they want to experience more of what he is offering. It is interesting to note that after spending only one day with him, Andrew goes to find his brother and invites him to join them. It’s obvious Andrew has made his decision about staying with Jesus!

There is a great lesson here for those of us who follow Jesus today. If we are experiencing life-giving blessings in our relationship with Jesus and his followers in the church, then all we need to do is invite those around us to “come and see/experience” what this life is like. If we truly are living the way of Jesus Christ, they will want to be part of it too!

Personal Worship Option:

Offer this prayer or one in your own words: Lord Jesus, give me and all of your followers a never-ending desire to invite others to be part of your Church. And help us who are the Church always offer your Spirit such that they will want to join us and follow you too. In your name, Amen.
