Read Acts 2:42-47.
The movement was in its early days. The one who started it had been crucified, resurrected and had returned to heaven. The leaders he had left behind had just experienced a miraculous outpouring of the same Spirit that was in him. Many people had responded that day and were now part of the movement. This passage tells of how they related to each other in those days. They were devoted to learning what the disciples shared from what Jesus taught them. They were devoted to spending time with each other and sharing meals together. There was much generosity among them. They were devoted to prayer, acknowledging that only by staying connected to this same Spirit could the movement continue and flourish. And flourish it did: “...the Lord added to their number daily…”
People still seek to be part of a group of people who are devoted to each other, who are generous with each other, who love each other. And when there is also a devotion to God and letting God’s Spirit guide everything that is done, that group, that movement, that church will grow.
Thank God for a church that lives by these same kinds of principles and characteristics. Renew your commitment today to doing your part to help this church thrive, along with inviting others to be part of it.
