Read Acts 28:1-2.
Paul and those who had traveled with him had just spent 14 days on a boat on a stormy sea before being shipwrecked. They were wet, cold, hungry, tired, and bewildered. This passage says they were greeted with unusual kindness by the islanders of Malta. What made it unusual? It was unexpected behavior from people they did not even know. The kindness was immediate and generous. The islanders saw folks who were cold and wet and took action without even questioning who they were or what they were doing. They gave from their own resources.
It reminds me of hearing of people who pay for the next person’s coffee or lunch at the drive through restaurant windows. An unexpected act of kindness can lift the spirits of anyone. God wants us to be welcoming and giving. As Christians we should love giving to others including sacrificing for the good of others. Numerous times I have paid for groceries for the person in front of me at the grocery store because they did not have enough money to cover it. It truly is more of a blessing to give than to receive.
