Daily Devotion for December 29, 2024

Read Colossians 3:12-17.

Many people probably got at least one new clothing item for Christmas, maybe several. For some people, there is something about having new clothes to wear that gives them a sense of “newness” about themselves.

As Paul writes to the Christians in Colossae, he invites them to live their daily life in a whole new way, putting their old ways behind them and “putting on some new clothes” that has nothing to do with what they put on their physical body each day. He’s got spiritual “clothes” in mind and it is a lesson that is still just as applicable to us as it was to them. These clothes have everything to do with how we treat people.

People may or may not notice if you are wearing new “physical” clothes, but you can be sure they will notice if you treat them differently. To show “compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience” toward others (especially if you have not been doing so) will definitely get the attention of others. And chances are, they will want to know what brought about the change. That’s when you get to tell them about Jesus!

Personal Worship Option:

I hope you are planning to be in worship at Christ Church this morning! We are having one combined service at 10:00 and it will be great! Be there! And bring somebody with you!
