Read Galatians 5:13-14.

When Paul was writing to the church in Galatia, he was angry with them. It seems that this church that he had planted was being led astray by teachers who taught them to believe that living as Christ taught was not enough. These false teachers were emphasizing that following the Law was of primary importance - even more important than love. Paul emphasizes (as he does in so many other letters) that there is no benefit to being a slave to the law if you do not have love. In fact, Paul argues that we should be a slave to love of other people as we strive to live out the greatest commandment to love God and neighbor. Advent reminds us that the darkness of the world does not overcome the light that came into the world through Jesus. As we approach the miracle of the Incarnation, let us strive to live out the sacrificial love of Jesus as we love and serve others.

Personal Worship Option:

Pray “O God, help me to see others as you see me. Help me to love others as you love me. Help me to be the person that you created me to be, sharing your love and grace with everyone with joy in my heart. Amen.”
