Read Luke 23:32-46.
In our current sermon series, we are looking at the four books that offer the core Bible story. In the Old Testament, the Exodus was the event that prompted the telling of the story throughout that part of the Bible. In the New Testament, that event was obviously Easter. Jesus’ death and resurrection validated all that Jesus had taught and who he claimed to be.
In Luke’s telling of the crucifixion, I am struck by the ways Jesus continued his mission and ministry to the very end. He offers a prayer of forgiveness for those responsible for putting him there, which in some ways includes all of us. He gives hope to one of the criminals hanging beside him. And even with his final breath, he continues to place his ultimate trust in his heavenly Father.
To live the way of Jesus Christ is to be a person and a people of forgiveness and hope. And we are to continue to learn to put our complete trust in the God who gave us life and gives us new life through Christ. Most of all, we are to be a people always moving closer to living the sacrificial love that he taught us.

This chorus was written by Louisa Stead in 1882. Let them be your song today.
“Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him! How I’ve proved him o’er and o’er! Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! O for grace to trust him more!”
