Read Genesis 41:39-43.

Our scriptures this week are helping us to see how God prepares us for the difficult times (storms) that will inevitably come in life.

The beautiful story of God’s work in and through Joseph’s life is thirteen chapters long from Genesis 37 to 50. When you have time, I encourage you to read all thirteen chapters. Leading up to today’s scripture, Joseph had dealt with heavy storms in his life.

Joseph had brothers who were jealous of him and had sold him into slavery. Then he was a greatly trusted slave of Potiphar, who was one of Pharaoh’s officials. Then Joseph was falsely accused by Potiphar’s wife and was imprisoned. But God brought him out of those storms with a whole new life.

God had given Joseph the gift of interpreting dreams. Once, Joseph had interpreted the chief cupbearer’s dream. Then Pharaoh had some troubling dreams, and no one could help him interpret his dreams. The chief cupbearer told Pharaoh about Joseph. So, Pharaoh sent for Joseph who was at that time in the dungeon (vs. 14).

God gave Joseph the gift of interpreting Pharaoh’s dreams. Joseph’s interpretation helped Pharaoh to prepare for the seven years of famine across the land. This famine would not only affect Egypt but also the surrounding lands.

Yes, God brought Joseph out of those storms with a whole new life, but not only for his sake but to be of service in saving the people of Egypt and the surrounding lands. Joseph led the people to store up grains for seven years so that there would be enough for the people during the seven years of famine. Joseph continually gave credit to God. And Joseph forgave his brothers.

Personal Worship Option:

In Genesis 50:20, Joseph is speaking to his brothers and says, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. So then, don’t be afraid. I will provide for you and your children.” In the storms of life, trust that God is with you to accomplish even greater service for others.
