Devotion:
Read Matthew 28:19-20a.
Today and tomorrow, we are focusing on these last couple of verses from “The Gospel According To Matthew.” Today I am specifically zeroing in on one word in verse 19: “Go…”
After his resurrection, Jesus had appeared to the women who came to the tomb. He told them to tell “my brothers” to go to Galilee and he would meet them there. They followed those instructions and Matthew closes his Gospel with what Jesus said to them at that scene.
Notice the first statement he makes in verse 18: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” Then comes the word “Therefore…” So the commissioning to “go” is given because he has the authority to give it. These disciples are not being sent to accomplish this mission in their own power and resources. They are being sent in the power and authority of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world.
Jesus also sends you and me with the command to “go.” In our time together in worship tomorrow, we will explore further what that word means for our mission.
Personal Worship Option:
When Jesus tells you to “go”, where and to whom do you think he is directing you?
