Read Micah 6:6-8.
After the four “Major prophet” books (Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel), the remaining twelve are known as the “Minor prophets.” These designations are given only because of the length of the books. We close this series today lifting up some key lessons from these other prophetic books.
These verses from Micah are a good summary of all the prophets, giving us three basic ways of living that please God. The prophets regularly connected our relationship with God to our relationship with people. They made it clear that we could not have a good relationship with God if we are not treating people right, particularly the least and last among us. Micah says that even making ridiculous amounts of sacrifices to God will not satisfy God unless we do all we can to do right by other people.
So he gives us three straightforward guidelines for living life God’s way: act justly (be proactive in doing the right thing toward individuals and groups of people), love mercy (be willing to forgive and offer grace to those who have wronged you) and walk humbly with your God (always seek God’s guidance and give God the glory and praise for all that is accomplished). This is another way to state what we are seeking to do: learning to live the way of Jesus Christ.
