Devotion:

Read Romans 12:9-21.

We continue our reading from the first part of this chapter yesterday. These verses are packed with short statements and phrases, each of which could be a great “thought for the day.” In fact, you may want to use them in that way every once in a while. Put each one on a different day of your planner or calendar sometime and focus on that thought for that day.

For today, I invite you to pick out the one phrase, sentence or verse which catches your attention the most. Focus on it. Why do you think it is sticking out to you right now? What might the Spirit be wanting to teach you with those words?

This would also be a good conversation/study piece for any small group you are in, or just with a family member or friend. Look at these verses together and let everyone share which phrase or verse sticks out to them the most and why.

Romans 12. I commend it to you for reflection every so often. Let it guide you in how to offer your life to God as an everyday offering.

Personal Worship Option:

Back in 1873, Frances Havergal wrote words to a hymn based on the first verse of this chapter. It is a prayer hymn. You may want to look it up and let it be your prayer today. The first two lines alone can also serve that purpose:

Take my life and let it be consecrated, Lord, to thee.

Take my moments and my days; let them flow in ceaseless praise.
