Devotion:
Read James 1:22-25.
Our emphasis this week is using both our head and our feet as we seek to live the way of Christ. This writer also reminds us to do more than just listen with our mind, but, as the people of Christ, put what we learn into action. It is important to listen to what God’s Word says, but it is much more important to obey it, to do what it says. We can measure the effectiveness of our Bible study by the effect it has on our behavior and attitudes. Do you put into action what you have studied?
The fact is, without the Holy Spirit encouraging us we would never want to do what the Word says. Our selfish wants and desires get in the way. However, it is by His amazing grace that He gives us the desire to grow more and more in His Word every day so our actions may bring glory to Him. He is the one who gives us a hunger for His Word. He gives us the strength we need to no longer be just hearers of the Word, but also doers.
Personal Worship Option:
Read the first chapter in James. Ask God to grant you the grace to do what He commands in Scripture. Then give thanks that He’ll empower you to do what He asks.
