Devotion:
Read Acts 19:8-10.
The Apostle Paul is such a fascinating figure in the Bible. Many people who grew up in the Church can relate to him. He had lived much of his life thinking he understood the will and way of God. But then he met Jesus Christ for himself and learned he had been going down the wrong path. So he spent the rest of his life telling both Jews and Gentiles about Christ.
Often, his Jewish brothers disagreed with him. In some cases, they didn’t even want to hear what he had to say. Earlier in this chapter, we’re told he is in Ephesus. He spent three months in the synagogue there trying to convince his own faith family about Jesus. (How long would you stay with it?) After they made it very clear they wanted no part of what he was talking about, he found another place in the city to meet with anybody who would listen. And he did that for two years!
I confess that too many times in my life, I have tried to talk to someone about Jesus and they let me know they didn’t want to hear what I had to say. And I left them alone. After one time! One time! May we all be more committed to sharing with others about our Lord. Of course, we don’t want to do so in such a way that we turn people off, but we can be determined to find a way (led by the Holy Spirit, of course) to lead others to Christ. I notice in these few verses that when Paul was not making progress in one venue, he moved on to another. May God grant us wisdom to know when to keep sharing in a particular setting and when to move on.
Personal Worship Option:
Pray for that wisdom today. When you get it, pray for the courage to follow it.
