Daily Devotion, October 7, 2021

Devotion:

We are living in what is called a “post-Christian” world and culture. People are rejecting Christianity and the church and saying they have no religion or are atheists. It seems easy for people to conform to a faithless culture.

As I read through Hebrews, including today’s passage, I get a different perspective. Reading about Jesus, what he has accomplished for us, and his sovereignty over everything, how can I not be encouraged in my faith? Of course, there are always the pressures and challenges that remain. We are reminded and encouraged today to hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. Even if we experience despair and discouragement, we are encouraged to hold tightly to Jesus who is faithful. Other things may fail us, but Jesus is faithful. His promises are true. Even when we experience discouragement and despair, he is faithful.

Let’s continue to “spur one another on toward love and good deeds.” We need to surround ourselves with others, gathering together, to lift up one another. Let’s continue to encourage each other, even if times are tough. We do not need to trust in those who are unreliable; we need to trust in Jesus and those believers who are faithful. In Jesus we can be encouraged and it is important to encourage each other in Christ.

Personal Worship Option:

Lord God, thank you for being faithful. Help us to hold unswervingly to the hope we profess in you and to be a strong encourager to others. Amen.
