Devotion:
Read Mark 6:30-32.
Jesus reminds his disciples of the need to get away and rest every so often. It is one of those core rhythms God built into creation, including in humans. What does rest look like to you? For many years, I felt like rest was an unproductive part of life. I needed rest/sleep to function each day, but beyond that, the purpose of rest eluded me. That is until my body forced a long-term rest needed to physically recover. There are always things to do, but there is an art to the rest that restores the mind and body. Restorative rest includes sleep, exercise of mind and body, and resting in God. Chapter 6 of Mark shows us a day filled with joy, grief, hope, healing, fear, and exhaustion. And in the end of the day, Jesus stepped away to regroup - spend time with God and renew his spirit. This is our rhythm of life: to work and rest which leads to energy and strength for the journey.
Personal Worship Option:
Follow Jesus’ example of handling the stresses of life. If today starts to get hectic, take five minutes to be alone with God. If your work gets interrupted, ask God for patience to deal with the interruption and for endurance to finish the task.
