Devotion:

Abraham and Lot had both become very wealthy with flocks of sheep, goats, and cattle. But the land could not support both Abram and Lot. Abram's and Lot's servants were involved in arguments over grazing areas for their large herds of livestock. Now both Lot and Abram's tribes were in hostile territory. They could have pulled together but they let petty jealousy tear them apart. Two Godly groups bickered - imagine that! Abram knew he was facing conflict with his nephew, so Abram took the initiative in settling the dispute. In what is a "wisdom of Solomon" method of decision making - he gave Lot first choice, even though Abram, as the elder, could have had first choice. Abram models how to respond to difficult family situations by putting family peace above personal desires. It would serve us all well to remember Genesis 13:8 when we face conflicts. “So Abram said to Lot, “Let’s not have any quarreling between you and me, for we are close relatives.”

Personal Worship Option:

When faced with a relationship conflict, focus on being relational instead of having to be right. Pray today that you will follow Abram’s example.
