Read Matthew 28:1-10.
We love to read the Christmas story, with shepherds and Magi, of a virgin birth and an obedient Joseph. The teachings of Christ jump off the pages of the gospels to us, as we imagine what it would have been like to have been with him as one of his disciples during his life on earth. Sometimes the miracles confound us, but they always point as signs toward the Father, to whom the Son was always bringing glory. But none of the details of the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, from his birth to his death, would likely be known to us if it were not for the story of his resurrection.
The statement in this passage that “he is risen” serves as a foundation for our faith. It is because of Christ’s resurrection from the dead that we even know about him. It is because of his resurrection that we have the hope of eternal life. He promised his apostles that he would rise again, but that sounded preposterous until it happened. It is because of Christ’s resurrection that we can have complete hope and faith in him as our Lord and Savior. We recently celebrated this at Easter, and we can celebrate it every day!
Personal Worship Option:
Give thanks today that Christ came to save the world and that he rose from the tomb. Reflect on the awesome fact that, because of his resurrection, we too have the hope and promise of eternal life in God’s presence. Alleluia! Amen!
