Devotion:

It is one of the greatest stories of allegiance and loyalty to God in all of the Bible. Three young exiles from Judah will not bow down to the statue of the Babylonian king. They could have rationalized bowing down with a few of these excuses: We will bow down - but not actually worship; the king has absolute power, and we must obey; it’s just one time, then we’ll ask for forgiveness; if we die, who will look out for our countrymen? These excuses sound sensible at first, but they are dangerous rationalizations. To have bowed would have erased the testimony for God forever. Never again could they talk about the power of God above all other gods.

But these young men chose to be faithful to God no matter what happened! They trusted God to deliver them, but they were determined to be faithful regardless of the consequences. Because of their faithfulness God was honored and the king was confronted with the truth of God. What about you? Are there excuses you use for not standing up for God?

Personal Worship Option:

Reflect on your relationships, workplace, recreational activities, anything that occupies your time. Where can you stand up for God in those places? How can your faithfulness to God point others to Him?
