Devotion:

Peter and the other apostles are being persecuted by the council for teaching the way of Jesus. Peter, speaking boldly with the power of the Holy Spirit, proclaims the reign of Jesus. Our priority is to be in tune with God, not man. God raised Jesus from the dead to save us and have forgiveness over sin. The apostles were witnesses to the crucifixion, death and resurrection of Jesus and the Holy Spirit came upon them and to all who believe in Jesus.

Jesus was persecuted, the apostles were persecuted, and believers are persecuted in many parts of the world every day for their faith in Jesus. It is hard to be obedient to God and not get off track. Jesus rose from the dead to be our Savior and provide the way to have a relationship with God. The last words of Jesus before he ascended into heaven were, “We are to go and make disciples baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit teaching them to obey the commands I have taught you. And know that I will be with you to the end of the age.” As the disciples were given power through the Holy Spirit, we too as believers are called to be witnesses for Jesus by the power of the Spirit.

Personal Worship Option:

God, Thank you for your love, grace and mercy. Help us obey you first and foremost. May the power of the Holy Spirit guide us to be witnesses for Jesus. Amen.
