Devotion:

In our verse today, Paul gives us powerful advice on persistence in prayer and perseverance on our journey of faith. Look at how many times he uses the word “all.”

“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord's people.”

We are to pray on all occasions with all kinds of prayer and requests and always pray for all people. Paul is “all” over it! Wouldn’t it be great if people could say of us we’re all over prayer! As we grow closer to Christ, our desire is to make prayer part of our daily, constant, and consistent way of living. Praying is a dynamic and active part of the lifestyle of a growing believer. It’s good to get in the habit of beginning our day in prayer and continuing an attitude of prayer throughout the day. We offer prayers of praise to the Heavenly Father as we express our gratitude to God. We pray about the things that trouble us and that weigh heavy on our hearts. We pray for those moments that we have failed and let God down. An important part of our prayer lives is time spent praying for others. Let’s use this verse to remind us of the power of persistent praying and then be “all over it!”

Personal Worship Option:

Paul tells us to be alert in our prayer life. Today practice being alert to the presence of God in your life. Practice being alert to both your needs and blessings. Practice being alert to the needs of those whose paths you cross. And at every occasion be sure to pray in the Spirit about all.
