Read John 14:25-26.
I remember reading, as a child, in my King James Version New Testament about the Holy Ghost, and I was perplexed. I went to my mother and told her I was confused about there being a holy ghost, when both she and Dad had told me that ghosts are not real. She smiled and told me that the Holy Ghost is the Holy Spirit of God. When I told her that I still didn’t understand, she stopped what she was doing and said something I never forgot, “The Holy Spirit is part of God, and it is the way God is with us in the world. When we feel God’s presence, it is God’s Holy Spirit.” That made so much sense to that little guy then, and it still makes sense to me.
Jesus was about to leave his apostles and return to the Father, but he would not leave them alone. In this passage, he promised the apostles that the Holy Spirit would now come to be their advocate and to teach them all things and to remind them of Jesus’s teachings. That same Holy Spirit shows up regularly in our lives today. Thank you, Mother!
Personal Worship Option:
Thank God today for our understanding of God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Spend some time thinking about how the Holy Spirit has been with you recently in worship, in your times of prayer, and throughout the day. Give thanks for God’s presence as the Holy Spirit.
