Read Luke 9:51.

Some Biblical scholars call this the “hinge point” of this Gospel. The focus of the ministry of Jesus turns toward Jerusalem and what Jesus knows awaits him there. That awareness hangs over everything that happens from that point on. Jesus had a most difficult journey to make. And he knew his heavenly Father would be with him on that journey.

Could it also be that part of what emboldened him for this journey was the journey his parents told him they made just before he was born. Because of the census that had been decreed, Joseph and Mary had to make the trip to Bethlehem right at the time when she was about ready to give birth to her baby. That had to be most challenging. But God was with them and provided for them all along the way. I am sure they told their son about that trip.

Can you recall times when you have been inspired by the stories of family and friends who told of how God had brought them through difficult times? Look for opportunities to share your own stories with others about how God has provided for you. You never know when and how that may inspire someone else.

Personal Worship Option:

Offer a prayer of gratitude for those who have given you courage to push forward because of how they trusted in God to carry them through difficult parts of their journey of faith.
