Read Luke 5:1-11.

From the moment that we humans sinned and separated ourselves from God, God has been “fishing for people.” Jesus invited his first disciples and his followers ever since to join in that creative mission.

Peter had no interest in doing any more fishing. He was tired plus they had not caught anything, so why bother. But Jesus insisted and Peter relented. This was a moment of truth for Peter. He was saying, “I will try again, your way.” When he did, the catch of fish was so great the boat nearly sank.

Peter must have been awestruck at this miracle, and his first response was to realize his own insignificance in comparison to Jesus’ greatness. Jesus had helped many people, but Peter was amazed that Jesus cared about his day-to-day routine and understood his needs. God is not only interested in saving us, but in helping us in our daily lives. As followers of Jesus, we can celebrate his greatness and intervention in our lives, and because of that, we want to share that with others.

Personal Worship Option:

Reflect on the goodness of God in your life. Look for opportunities to share some of that joy with someone today.
