Devotion:
Read Exodus 2:1-10.
Moses was raised in his family as a Hebrew, but also in the court of Pharaoh. He grew up knowing the stories of his people, stories about Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He was also given the best education in the world at that time. Later he had to leave Egypt and became familiar with being a shepherd and knowing life in the hills and wilderness beyond Egypt.
When God called Moses to the mission of confronting Pharaoh about freeing God’s people and leading them out of Egypt, all of that training and experience was of great benefit. He knew his way around Egypt and the courts of Pharaoh. He knew what it was like to be dependent on God in the wilderness.
When God calls you and me to serve in various ways, there are times when we are given assignments that are completely out of our comfort zone. But much of the time, God uses the talents, interests and experience we already have to put us in circumstances where we can thrive in serving God’s mission.
Personal Worship Option:
I am reminded of an old hymn, words written Frances Havergal in 1873. It is a prayer hymn. Consider letting the first verse be your prayer this day:
Take my life, and let it be consecrated, Lord to thee.
Take my moments and my days, let them flow in ceaseless praise.
Take my hands, and let them move at the impulse of thy love.
Take my feet, and let them be swift and beautiful for thee.
