Devotion:
Read Job 1:13-22.
One of the biggest fears of parents is that harm would come to their children. As a parent and grandparent, I know that this is one of my greatest concerns. So, coming to grips with God allowing Job to lose his children has been a challenge for me.
Job was a man that God described as perfect and upright, and one that feared God and hated evil.
He had 10 children, seven boys and three girls. In the span of mere minutes, he got word that all of his worldly possessions were gone, and his children had all died. God had allowed Satan to attack him.
Job’s reaction to all of his attacks was extreme grief. However, in the process, he never sinned nor blamed God (Job 1:20-22). Job demonstrated a right relationship with God.
It is important to remember that God loves us and cares for us. Our responsibility to God is to obey him, to trust him, and to submit to his will, whether we understand it or not. When we do, we will find God in the midst of our trials—possibly even because of our trials.
Personal Worship Option:
What is your greatest fear? Pray today, that you will have faith over your fear as you trust God. Commit to doing it as Job did as you face your fears: never sinning, nor blaming God.
