Devotion:
Read Luke 7:36-47.
In our story today we see a sinful woman who lavishes tears, expensive perfume, and kisses on her Savior. When this immoral woman appears before Jesus, he didn't pull away, didn't scold her, and didn't make her feel foolish. No, he gladly received the baptism of her tears, recognizing this heartfelt expression for what it was - worship. This woman was honoring Jesus by giving the best of what she had.
Simon has trouble understanding Jesus' response to her, so Jesus tells Simon one of his stories, a parable. Jesus points out that those who have had a great debt canceled will love more than those who have only a small debt forgiven. Jesus shows that forgiveness is intended to produce love. Whether our sins seem great or small, Jesus wants to forgive us, and he wants us to respond with love.
Jesus wants us to honor him by giving him our best in all areas of our lives.
Personal Worship Option:
Our love for God is shown by worshiping him, following him, and serving others. Worship God today by showing your gratitude for his forgiveness through prayers of praise or acts of service to others.
