Devotion:
Read 1 Samuel 17:32-37.
Facing great risk, David volunteered to fight against the giant warrior of Israel’s enemy. We might not face a nine-foot giant, but we face giants of other kinds. Things like insecurity, loneliness, failure, and many others. We can remember David’s five stones to help us defeat the giants we face.
- Courage: David was not afraid to face the enemy. (vs 32) Use courage to face your own giants.
- Confidence: Reflect on the ways God has already demonstrated his care to you. (vs 37) You can have confidence that God will help you overcome the problems you face.
- Preparation: David armed himself with the resources available (vs 40). It’s important to prepare to face challenges in your life too.
- Trust: David didn’t trust his own ability. (vs 45) Put your trust in God.
- Victory: When you turn your battles over to God, you’ll have the victory over the giants in your life.
Personal Worship Option:
Prayer for today: Dear Father God, help us to remember that you were with David in his battle with Goliath. So we know that you will be with us in our battles. Give us the courage to stand, the confidence to move, the preparation to gather resources, and the trust in You so that victory will be celebrated. Thank you for walking with us for the battle and the victory belongs to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
