Devotion:

Have you ever said, “I can’t see the forest for the trees”. OR “I can’t see for looking.” There is a term for this called inattentional blindness. Sometimes it is just hard to see what is right in front of us. What if we treat God like this? What if God is at work all around us every day, blessing us and working to expand his kingdom, but we miss it because we aren’t looking for him?

One of the prayers Paul prayed for the Ephesian church was that “the eyes of your heart might be enlightened” Paul was praying that God would enhance their spiritual vision and illuminate their hearts so that each one will come to know the hope in which God desires for us to live.

Sometimes we miss what God is doing because we aren’t looking for him. Our world demands our attention. The boss wants the report yesterday, your child needs to make a science project, you ran out of milk three days ago, your email is blinking, the cell phone is chirping and the news info is running at the bottom of the screen. When our lives are filled with noise and activity, the still small voice of God gets drowned out too easily. But then you look around the dinner table at your family and your heart overflows with thanksgiving. You see need around you and realize God is speaking to you to offer hope to others. You hear God’s voice and your heart is enlightened and you see. He was there all along.

Personal Worship Option:

This is my prayer for you: that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so that you may see and understand and rejoice in all that God is doing around you. Don’t miss him. Grab hold of hope and share it!
