Devotion:

Jesus teaches his disciples one of the key traits of being part of his kingdom and lets them know that even he came to this earth to serve others. The disciples were wrapped up in their own concerns and completely missed the impact of Jesus’ words until later. It is easy to get tangled in the world’s view of things and enmeshed in faulty thinking. The world’s system of leadership is very different from leadership in God’s kingdom. Worldly leaders are often selfish and arrogant as they claw their way to the top disregarding the people around them. Leadership in God’s kingdom exemplifies servanthood. The greatest leader is one who serves best. There are different styles of leadership - some lead through public speaking, some through administering, some through relationships - but every Christian leader needs a servant’s heart.

Personal Worship Option:

What degree do you exemplify a servant’s heart? Reflect on all the ways that God loves you by serving you. Seek ways to serve others today.
