Devotion:
Read Matthew 1:18-21.
Our culture seems to love superheroes. We celebrate those who risk their lives to save those in danger. We marvel at their courage. We are in awe of their willingness to sacrifice themselves for the good of others. And beyond the “real life” heroes, our culture loves the stories and movies of superheroes that save whole planets.
Part of what the angel shares with Joseph in the dream is that this son to be born to Mary “...will save his people from their sins.” The world was in need of a savior, one who would rescue us from our sinful ways. From the beginning, it is stated that this was the mission of this child to be born to Mary. He would be the Savior of the world.
He was and he still is. He still comes to save us from our sins. When we are willing to confess and repent, he forgives us and teaches us to live in new ways. When we are willing to face the reality of situations in which our life is not aligned with God’s purposes, Jesus still guides us in the direction God would have us go.
No matter what you are facing in your life, no matter what is wrong in your life, be assured that the Christchild is still Jesus the Savior for you. Never forget that his saving power is always available for you.
Personal Worship Option:
Is there something in your life that you need to give to Christ the Savior? Is there someone you know who needs to hear what this Savior can do for them? Offer this up in prayer.
